Wireless data logging for geophysical applications

Reliable monitoring of water pressure under dikes via 4/5G

For an internationally operating specialist in the field of geophysics, Syrinx developed an intelligent electronic system for reading and transmitting data from so-called pore pressure meters. These sensors measure water pressure in various soil layers, including under dike bodies, and provide crucial information for the safe construction and elevation of flood defenses.

The logger developed by Syrinx reads the sensors and transmits the measurement data via the national 4G or 5G network to central processing systems. Based on this data, engineers can raise a dike in phases and in a controlled manner, without the risk of underlying layers sliding due to excessive build-up of water pressure — a risk with potentially serious consequences.

In developing this solution, low energy consumption, high reliability, data security, and ease of use were central considerations. The logger operates autonomously, for extended periods, and under harsh environmental conditions, without compromising on accuracy or data quality. Thanks to smart energy management strategies, the system remains operational for long periods without frequent maintenance.

This project also demonstrates how collaboration between disciplines and innovative thinking lead to a robust and future-proof solution. By intelligently applying technology, we, together with our client, make a direct contribution to the safety of our living environment.
